WordPress vs. Blogger

In this post, when I mention “WordPress” I mean only WordPress.org not WordPress.com. It is important to notice that there are some differences between wordpress.org and wordpress.com.

Blogger

Advantages
#1 Free: Blogger is free. You don’t have to purchase a domain or hosting. You already have a Blogger account if you have a Gmail account.

#2 Hosting: Generally, your site doesn’t experience down times as Blogger (blogspot) sites are hosted on Google servers.

#3 Reliable: Since blogger is owned and maintained by Google, it is unlikely to be hacked by hackers. Google handles it very good.

#4 Google Adsense: It has inbuilt support for Adsense. You have been given opportunity to place ads and monetize your free site.

#5 Automatic Google+ Sharing: It is so much easier to share your post to Google+. Blogger platform has an option to share posts to Google+ automatically.

#6 Easy To Use: The Blogger interface is easy to understand. It is self explanatory to the new users.

Disadvantages
#1 Less Design Options: Blogger has less design options than WordPress. Bloggers don’t always get the design they want. Most of the templates are not attractive although some template designers convert WordPress templates for Blogger.

#2 Limited Features: Blogger platform has limited features than that of WordPress.

#3 Slow: Blogger platform is relatively slow.

#4 Unprofessional Domain Name: if you don’t use custom domain, it sounds unprofessional, for example, yourdomain.blogspot.com (sub-domain).

WordPress

Advantages
#1 Full Control: You have hundred percent controls over your blog. You can edit codes and make the site look more unique and more stylish.

#2 Updating: A large number of designers design and develop WordPress for users.

#3 Huge Plug-ins: You will get access to thousands of ‘plug-ins’ for your WordPress blog. Furthermore, it is very easy for you to install them to your website.

#4 Professionalism: WordPress ensures your professionalism. A good number of people use WordPress.

Disadvantages
#1 Costly: At first, you have to buy domain, hosting etc. for the purpose of keeping your site up and getting regular traffic, you should purchase them from reliable companies like Go Daddy, Namecheap HostGator etc.

#2 Security Breach: WordPress sites are relatively easier to get hacked than that of Blogger sites. Moreover, WordPress blogs tend to receive more spam attacks than Blogger blogspot blogs.

#3 Customization: Though WordPress is extremely flexible and highly customizable, you may need some coding knowledge to customize your site. This customization can be difficult for beginners.

Which One Is Better For You?
There are many minds since there are many people. You have to be rational to select the right blogging platform. Calculate your options and think about your budget, blog knowledge, time etc. If you are a student like me or have a few budgets, I suggest you to use Blogger with a custom domain.

If you have enough money to manage your blog, then you are suggested to take WordPress as your blogging platform. WordPress gives flexibility and freedom to the blog. If you are businessman or you want more professionalism, you should choose WordPress. However, you can transfer your Blogger blog to WordPress later, if you want to.
